Kazakhstan Port of Aktau cargo volume down 13.3% to 4,96m tons

Kazakhstan-based state-run Port of Aktau handled in January-May 4,956,000 tons of cargo, a 13,3-percent drop from the last year’s figures, the Port of Aktau Authority said.


Shipments of crude oil and petroleum products in January-May totaled 3,597,700 tons, dry cargo – 833,400 tons, steel – 682,000 tons, other goods – 119,800 tons, grain – 31,600 tons. The volume of ferry traffic was 524,800 tons. In the reporting period, there were 848 calls at the port.


In May, the port transshipped 1 million 76,6 thousand tons of dry cargo and oil products. This includes: 725,200 tons of oil products (96% of projected figures), metal – 162,600 tons, ferry cargo – 150,100 tons, wheat - 11,600 tons, other goods – 27,200 tons. There were 195 calls at the port in the reporting period.


The Republican State Enterprise Aktau International Sea Commercial Port (Port of Aktau), located on the east coast of the Caspian Sea, is the premier port of Kazakhstan. The port is a gateway for international trade flows passing through the country. The Aktau port’s terminals handle a broad range of dry cargoes, crude oil and petroleum products. In 2010, the Aktau Port’s cargo throughput rose by 26.7% year-over-year, to 13,951,000 tons.
