Odessa port’s cargo volume grows 1% to over 1m tons

Throughput of Ukraine-based Odessa Commercial Sea Port (OCSP, Ukraine) for 5 months of 2011 increased by 1% compared to January-May in 2010, to 1 million 358 thousand tons, the company’s press office reported.


Freight volume handled at the port in May rose 1.5% to 2,029,000 tons. Port of Odessa reported an increase in monthly volumes of grain, ore cargo, containers, and citrus.


Five-month boxes volume surged 35% to 168,356 TEUs. In May, container traffic at OCSP slightly increased to 36,994 TEUs (+9,5teus).


State-owned Odessa Commercial Sea Port is a largest port of the Black Sea-Azov basin. The port encompasses 14 ha, 9-km waterfront and 54 berths to accommodate 13meter draft vessels. Port of Odessa enables trade flow in the amount of over 14m tons of dry cargo and 14m tons of petroleum products a year. In 2010, cargo throughput of OCSP shrank by 11.8% year-over-year to 24,7 million tons and container traffic totaled 351,600 TEUs.
